The Story of Housing (In Pictures)

By Lindsay Sturman

We have limited space in our city. So, we have to make hard choices about how to use it.

Below: two ways to use a tight urban space:

Which gets us closer to an L.A where we all live affordably, and in dignity? Which inspires you? Do you want more living space—or more parking space?

Below: two street experiences. One is built around people—the other around parking. When you force parking into a building, it distorts this…

…into this.

Which encourages human interaction? Which creates a feeling of community—of interconnectivity? Which street would you want to live on?

We have the power to reimagine L.A.

We can change this…

…to this.

 And this…

…to this.

We can create these vibrant, connected communities with naturally affordable housing if we eliminate the burdensome costs of parking.

We just have to want it.

Ask yourself:

Do I want more sprawl, more traffic, more damage to the environment, and skyrocketing rents?

Or do I want intimate, human-scale development, treelined streets, walkable neighborhoods, and affordable living for all?

We can only have one.
